Scar-Less Labiaplasty™

What is a Scar-Less Labiaplasty™?

With the increased media exposure, women have unrestricted access to articles and explicit photographs concerning the female genital appearance. With laser hair removal and Brazilian waxing becoming famous, hair removal is now widely accepted. Another taboo that has been overcome is Labial reduction surgery better knows at “Labiaplasty.” Large labia are not abnormal in any way, but are a matter of choice and comfort, just like smaller or larger breasts. Scar-Less Labiaplasty™ surgery at Partington Plastic Surgery and Laser Center can help women who are under any physical or emotional stress due to the size of their labia.

For most women, the normal appearance of the labia is when the outer lips completely or almost completely cover the inner lips when your legs are in the normal position. When the inner lips, or the labia minor, protrude significantly, most women consider it not aesthetically pleasing. This may lead to decreased self-esteem and avoidance of sexual activity and intimacy. Other than the psychological effects, there are some physical dysfunctions of increased labia minora as well. These include not being able to wear certain clothes, irritation, problems with cleaning, unable to bike, and irritation during sex.

The most common cause of enlargement of the labia is congenital and begins at puberty under the influence of hormones. It could also be the result of chronic irritation, infection, dermatitis, vulvar lymphedema, and even pregnancy, age, and androgen hormone intake.

The Procedure

Traditionally, the technique for a Scar-Less labiaplasty™ involves amputating the excessive tissue of the labia and placing sutures over the edges, or so-called trim technique. Unfortunately, there are several disadvantages to this technique including discoloration, unnatural edges to the labia, and even contracture of the scar leading to painful intercourse. It could also potentially lead to the narrowing of the vaginal opening when the scar contracts. The clitoris could also be exposed, which is not natural and causes irritation. In our practice, we generally do not follow this traditional technique.

Instead, we prefer to use a different technique that involves a wedge resection to remove the excess tissue. The outer sutures are placed in the fold between the labia minora and majora, while the inner sutures are nearer the vaginal opening. This helps in several ways, most importantly in retaining the edge of the labia, its color and also prevents any distortion of the clitoris or the vaginal opening. In the case of any excess tissue on the clitoris, this could also be removed during the procedure. Mostly dissolvable sutures are used and the procedure is performed under local anesthesia.

Labia Majora Treatment

With age, the skin on the outer lips becomes loose, leading to overexposure of the inner lips. Surgeons correct this with excision of the excess skin or fat grafting on the outer lips, which makes them young and plump – giving protection to the inner lips. The incision is situated in the folds between the inner and outer lips.

Mon Pubis (pubic mound) Treatment

With age and also due to weight gain, the pubic mound also gets fuller. Most women find it similar to an extra roll in their clothes or jeans. This leads to them feeling embarrassed to wear swimsuits or anything revealing. In the case of good skin elasticity, your surgeon will be able to solve this merely with liposuction. In case, the skin is not that elastic anymore due to age or sagging, a pubic lift alone or in combination with an abdominoplasty can be helpful.

Recovery and care post-surgery

Your surgeon will advise you to wear surgical undergarments to reduce swelling and offer support to the tissue. It is advised that you only gently wash and avoid wiping and sexual intercourse for the first 4 to 6 weeks post-surgery. Even though labiaplasty is one of the most commonly requested vaginal rejuvenation processes, another procedure becoming common now in our practice is G-spot enhancement.  For more information, contact us today or visit our blog page.

Labiaplasty FAQ’s

DOES A SCAR-LESS LABIAPLASTYU2122 AFFECT SENSITIVITY?

Scar-Less Labiaplasty™ will affect your sensitivity a little bit. After the clitoris, the labia minora are the most sensitive part of the female genitalia. It helps with stimulation and lubrication during sex. The Scar-Less labiaplasty™ only reduces the size of the labia, it should not affect the ability to lubricate during sex.

DOES LABIAPLASTY LEAVE SCARS?

Surgical procedures that involve any cut or incisions will often leave a scar. With labiaplasty, these are generally very small and won’t affect your appearance.
