Liposuction
In today’s world, a fit and well-proportioned body is considered by many as a sign of health, vitality, and attractiveness. But oftentimes, despite our best efforts, we may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These “problem areas” are often times due to heredity rather than a lack of weight diet and exercise.
Liposuction should always be performed with the patient’s unique anatomy and individual goals in mind. Dr. Partington brings his medical and technical expertise together along with his artistic skills to create a shape as beautiful and unique as the patient.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is the selective, purposeful, and careful removal of unwanted fat from the face or body via liposuction also known as Suction Assisted Lipectomy (SAL). There are a number of different liposuction techniques that have been developed over the years. The specific technique we perform at our clinic is tumescent liposuction. This requires an infusion of saline solution with a numbing agent and “twilight” sedation prior to removal of excess fat.
The tumescent liposuction technique can be used to reduce localized fat deposits in these areas:
- Cheeks
- Chin
- Upper arms
- Breast or male breast
- Back
- Abdomen and waist
- Hips and buttocks
- Inner and outer thighs
- Calves, ankles, and knees
The Procedure
Liposuction is commonly performed as a stand-alone procedure or can be combined with other procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction, breast augmentation, breast lift, or a tummy tuck. Please remember that Liposuction is not a weight loss solution or a replacement for proper diet and exercise. Liposculpture through liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite or other irregularities that appear on the thighs, hips, and buttocks.
In your consultation we will discuss:
- The goals that you hold for your body and its shape
- If you hold a realistic expectation of what liposuction can do for your body
- What liposculpture will not do for your body such as shrinking the skin or reducing the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.
Surgeries are performed in our state-of-the-art, accredited surgical facility in our Kirkland clinic. All surgeries in our clinic are considered ‘outpatient surgeries’. We avoid general anesthesia, preferring to give ‘twilight sleep’ and leaving the patient with the ability to breathe on their own. Dr. Partington will carefully follow the surgical plan he has set forth with you, using the safest technique to get you through your surgery comfortably.
The Recovery
Post-operative pain varies with each patient and recovery is usually 7 to 10 days for most. Some patients are able to return to work within a few days, while others prefer to take more time off. Your estimated time to take off of work will be given to you on the day of your consultation depending on the areas we are treating. There are scars associated with liposuction and patients scar in different ways.
For most patients, scars start out red and eventually fade into inconspicuous little circles that can be hidden underneath everyday garments like underwear and bras. The vast majority of patients feel that the eventually faded scars are a worthwhile trade-off for the improvement in their body shape and self-image.
