Kybella®
What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is an FDA prescription medication specifically made to eliminate a double chin, also known as submental fat, in patients 18 years and older. It is made up of deoxycholic acid, a naturally developed molecule in the body that assists in the absorption of dietary fat. Once Kybella is injected and fat cells are destroyed, cells can no longer store fat. This results in permanent fat removal.
The Procedure
Prior to your treatment session, a consultation with our Board Certified plastic surgeon at our Kirkland, Washington office can help to determine if this procedure is right for you. You should not be pregnant, nursing, have a history of a bleeding disorder, or have an infection in the area to be treated. The morning of your treatment you should take ibuprofen if you can tolerate this medication. Also, you should tell your physician if you take any blood thinners or aspirin, or have a history of any issue with lidocaine or epinephrine. Kybella® is safely administered in-office and takes about 15 minutes. During treatment, multiple small injections are made in the treatment site and ice is used to assist with any discomfort. It is recommended that patients may need up to 2-3 treatments spaced at least 6 weeks apart for optimal results.
The Recovery
The results of Kybella are not immediate. Patients will experience swelling in the treatment area for a few days after their treatment session. Results from Kybella will appear gradually over the next month. Some patients may need a series of treatments to see optimal results. Patients return to normal activity upon leaving the clinic and mild soreness is relieved by Ibuprofen. Results from Kybella are long-lasting and permanently remove the fat cells. Your doctor will decide on the proper number of treatment sessions and the amount of Kybella you will need at each session. Following treatment, ice packs may be used to lessen swelling in the treatment area during the first 12 hours. It is best to ice for 15 minutes on every hour. If you can tolerate ibuprofen it is advised that you take 200mg three times daily beginning the day of your treatment and for the following four days. It is important that you do not massage the injection site, and avoid heavy exercise the day of your treatment. Notify Dr. Partington’s office if any significant, swelling, bleeding, pain, dusky discoloration, difficulty swallowing or smiling, or fever occurs.
The Financing
It is recommended that a minimum of two treatments will be needed for full submental correction. Our office accepts a range of financing options including:
